The Backyard Golf Game Review

The Backyard Golf Game Review

The Backyard Golf Game is a full swing golf game you can play at home. This game was built by friends and neighbors with a simple goal in mind: to have fun with great company and a little friendly competition at each other’s houses. It's perfect for practicing your swing and great a way to bring kids, adults, friends, family and neighbors together—to enjoy the outdoors together.

Packaging / Set Up / Portability Rating: 4/5

I love the packaging! One of my favorite boxes on a yard game yet. The Backyard Golf Game box held up great during shipping and didn’t have any noticeable damage.

The unboxing experience was great, everything was straightforward and it has a great guide explaining how to assemble/disassemble and play. Starting the assembly process is simple, you grab any two of the same color rings and click them into place. You do want to make sure you hear the “click” before you start on the next one. The foam on each ring is thick and gives it a nice premium feel. It took me less than 5 minutes to create all the rings, and it wasn’t very hard at all.

The game is extremely portable, and the carrying case is nice, it’s gotta drawstring and one solid strap. I’m going to give this a 4 out 5 for Packaging / Set-Up / Portability. The only thing that kept it from a 5 is that it is harder to disassemble than it looks, you have to click really hard on each button, and can be frustrating by the time you get to the 3rd ring.

Gameplay Rating: 5/5

I have been wanting to play this game from the first time I saw it, I love playing golf, and the idea of getting to do a full swing in my backyard was enticing.

It didn’t disappoint, the balls you chip with are like wiffle balls (plastic materials), and held up great. I love the fact that it comes with 24 balls, in 4 different colors, giving you the ability to have multiple people play at the same time.

I really put the name to the test and put the chipping mat in different places all over my backyard. It’s an addicting game, and the fact that you can move around and arrange the rings into different formations is a game changer! I’m giving game play a 5 out of 5

Durability Rating: 4/5

The rings and foam are on the higher end of quality compared to other yard games we’ve tested. The foam around some of the rings arrived with some small scuff marks but that doesn’t affect gameplay at all.

After assembling a couple of the rings I bounced them up and down, and contorted them a couple of different ways and didn’t have any issues. The plastic wiffle chipping balls are solid, and the fact that you get 24 makes you rest easy if you step on one or lose one. As I mentioned above, the carrying case is extremely durable and was a surprise to me how nice it was.

The chipping mat has some protruding plastic circles (stoppers) on the bottom to keep it from moving around, and had a nice thickness to it. It doesn’t seem to me that the foam would hold up well to the water, so I recommend not leaving everything outside in inclement weather. The fact that there are a lot of connection points on all 3 rings makes it more susceptible to one of the connection points breaking over time, so it's something to be mindful of as you put it together and take it apart. Those two final points are what is going to keep it from getting of 5, so I am giving it a 4 out of 5.

Family Friendly Rating: 5/5

All ages and skill levels can play this game! Reminder, it doesn’t come with any clubs so you will need to have your own. Because you can move closer or further away it allows you to adjust the difficulty level depending on who is playing. It’s important to take turns if you have multiple people playing at the same time, so you can keep an eye on where the balls are. Overall, it suits a family very well, and that's why I am giving it a 5 out of 5. *disclaimer - you do need to monitor your kids playing this game since they are swinging golf clubs!
